Cause Play (a Staged Reading)

Cause Play (a Staged Reading)

By Shavonne Coleman, Directed by guest artist Ella Soto

CAUSE PLAY by Shavonne Coleman is a new play commissioned by Eastern Michigan University and Spinning Dot Theatre as part of the National BIPOC Superhero Project. Join us in 1996, where Zuvi, Zipper and Aaron meet at a  middle school after-school Cosplay Club at Southwest Academy Magnet Middle School in Detroit. Together, they create identities, discover their surprising powers and work together to solve a BIG problem.  This activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

National BIPoC Superhero Project, an effort the TYA/USA is calling the largest and most comprehensive partnership of theatres ever undertaken in the field. All the commissioned works will feature stories of BIPOC superheroes, and the project will culminate in a year-long celebration with productions, co-productions, and a published anthology of all the plays. Come see the first glimpse of CAUSE PLAY!
